The best footballer of all time is:
Don’t get me wrong, I like Maradona’s skills on the pitch. But his comment that Pele is worried about Messi being labeled, incorrectly in my opinion, as the best ever in football, is silly. Pele has been part of 3 world cup wins. Not that I subscribe to “best ever” monikers, I would put Beckenbauer right next to Pele, maybe even above, just for his influence on the game at all levels, player, manager, ambassador. Gerhard Müller’s 14 goals in 2 world cups puts him right up there as well.
As for Messi’s rank, even today, I put Ibrahimović as a more complete player than Messi for his total game and 8 straight titles with 5 teams, including Barcelona, and now closing in on another with the other Milan. Plus his intangible, calming arrogance on the pitch, I would take Ibrahimović over Messi any day.
The truth of the matter is, its Maradona who’s worried about being replaced by Messi as the greatest, not in world football, but Argentinian football. That’s what’s really going on. And it boils down to Maradona becoming a loose cannon prior to and ever since Thomas Müller, the “ballboy,” according to Diego, and the DFB (German National Team), shut down Messi, Diego, and Argentina at the world cup in South Africa in 2010. That’s the truth about who’s the best.
